Urban Minds World Issues: Perplexity...

Perplexity...

Perplexity, what are your greatest fears? That you will not reach your potential? That you will forever live a life in debt? Or that you will never find that right person? Or maybe it's just your unwillingness to compromise and the outcomes that may arise from that.

According to Merriam Webster Dictionary, fear is an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger. Whatever your greatest fear is just know there is always help and even though, some of us are more stubborn and prideful than others, just know there is something for you. After the death of an NFL player Kenny McKinley, we should all be aware of our own fears and realize that no one's situation is any more grave than the next persons, especially if you can get help.

Even though, we are all familiar with the saying, "Fear nothing but God", we all, believe it or not have fears, some may be less worrisome than others. Remember as well to take nothing for granted and appreciate life in general because there was a infant who died prematurely and would have loved to see adulthood. Be grateful of the little things to you because those may be big things to someone else. We are all different.

Do your research, perplexity is at its greatest when you are ill-prepared and panic. Do not be afraid to fear because overcoming your fear[s] is one of the great satisfactions in life.

We all have fears, whether you believe this or not but how we remain composed and handle them is what separates us from the one's who let their fears overwhelm them and ruin them.

Until then, Be Blessed!

Go [Away] Bananas: Racism in Sports.

I was disappointed but not surprised, when I learned that supporters of a Russian soccer team once again received negative attention globally. This time, the soccer club, Lokomotiv Moscow is at the fore-front of racism in sports for their inappropriate banner. The banner read, "Thanks West Brom," with a picture of a banana in between the sarcastic thanks and the club of the newly-signed, Nigerian International Peter Odemwingie, West Bromwich Albion[or West Brom].

But the surprising thing is the club went unpunished for their supporters’ actions. If, the supporters embody the clubs passion then nothing less than a large sum of money should be required of the club to pay. This may not change the feelings of Odemwingie toward the racism, [he has come out to say that this is not the only time he faced racism while he played in Russia] he may have endured during his time in the European country but it goes to show the Russian Football Association will not tolerate actions like this, especially since they are bidding on the 2018 World Cup, which is the center of piece of the sport.

What also is mind-boggling was when questioned about the event, Russian officials claimed it to not be "racist". "C'mon Son" as radio host Ed Lover would say. Anything depicting a banana and a person of colored skin is racist. How Russian officials could be blind to the fact that bananas and colored people have had a long, unfriendly history baffles me. Athletes have had bananas thrown at them and monkey noises made toward them for years in Europe and other continents. So, for Russian officials to shrug off the correlation between bananas and colored people is just unacceptable.

The Russian officials’ explanation for a banana being involved in the banner is that apparently for years in Russian sports according to them, that if a player is nothing playing up to par with the supporters expectations they are seen as a banana because of their less than satisfactory performances.

But why use a banana toward a black athlete? There are plenty of fruits and vegetables you can use to sure your displeasure with an athlete’s performance. Why not an onion? Or a tomato?

Clearly, Lokomotiv has to do a better job of educating their supporters and the sports world has to do a better job of handling race relations in general because Russia is not the only place this happens.

Until then, be blessed!

Then you are in luck with Darren Anthony's - The Restaurant hosted by Mick Boogie.

This is Anthony's 1st mixtape and he gives you a little bit of everything from appetizing tracks like "The Unemployee", "Waiting on an Interview" and "The Restaurant", where Anthony metaphorically and creatively illustrates his life as an underrated, unsigned artist in the form of a person who is abruptly fired from his job as a baker to going through the whole interview process again and finally, a diner host & chef[You know how they work very hard but with little recognition and pay].

To the main entree with tracks like, "Same Sh*t, Different Day" [my personal favorite]. In this track, Anthony takes you through a day in his life as a under-appreciated worker in a restaurant. He paints a picture on this track of the typical stagnant job, where you do the same thing day-in and day-out with very little change in the day to day actions of the job.

If "Same Sh*t, Different Day" is the red meat then "Fly Motherf*cker" is the shrimp because it is lighter in tone but every bit as catchy. The beat should automatically keep your interests, it is very soulful and smooth. As for Darren's part, his word play is creative & avantgarde, with lines like "Hold the fort, like Knox /because it knocks/and the souls/I let go/they sold like auction block".

For those, who prefer a vegetarian-type of dish, then he gives you a healthier blend of his feelings on "Nowhere Fast", this track is very filling but is more food for thought than the other tracks as he illustrates his life as a rapper going nowhere anytime soon because of the industry's unwillingness to appreciate him as a versatile artist.

And if you have not had enough, Darren definitely serves many fine options for dessert on this mixtape. Tracks like "Cool Crazy Chill", "Space Cadet" and "Get Cha Money Up", take you away from the traditional desserts like pies, cakes, and ice cream. He serves up his own type of dessert that people into more of a backpack rap type of mood should enjoy, definitely good for those who come to the restaurant via skateboard as their choice of transportation.

"Sex in the City" is another option for those of you, who like the more traditional desserts, I would recommend this for you, romantic-types, who like to share your dessert with your significant other. Another soulful and soothing track, Anthony takes you on a verbal love ride to remember.

Anthony, even shows his diversity as a producer and singer, yes, he can harmonize. The man is very talented and worth your listen. If not, I'll buy you a drink at his restaurant.

The whole mixtape is worth a listen from track, 1-16.
